Buddhism is one of the world’s great wisdom traditions — a path of understanding, compassion, and liberation from suffering, founded 2,600 years ago by Siddhartha Gautama in northern India. Today more than 500 million people across the world follow the Buddhist path, and its teachings on mindfulness, impermanence, and the nature of mind are increasingly recognized across science, psychology, and philosophy.

This section gives you a clear, honest, and accessible introduction to what Buddhism actually is — its origins, its core teachings, and the practices that have sustained it across millennia. Whether you are completely new to Buddhism, reconnecting with a heritage, or simply curious about what the Walk for Peace monks were embodying on their 2,300-mile journey, this is where to begin.

I teach one thing and one thing only: suffering and the end of suffering. ຂ້ອຍສອນສິ່ງດຽວ ແລະ ສິ່ງດຽວເທົ່ານັ້ນ: ທຸກ ແລະ ການດັບທຸກ. — The Buddha (Majjhima Nikāya)
